Quick look

This is how it looks in Discord – with sample data.

Give new members a warm welcome.

A welcome banner with their name plus a verification button – yurna assigns the role as soon as someone confirms.

yurna notices the join right away.

A new member joins. Step 1 of 3

With welcome and leave messages, yurna greets new members automatically and says goodbye to everyone who leaves. Nobody feels overlooked, and your team sees right away who comes and goes.

Each message is an embed with a title and text, followed by an image card showing the member's avatar and name. The two messages are independent, so you can use just one of them if you like.

In the dashboard#

  1. In the dashboard sidebar, open Welcome & members → Welcome & goodbye (/dashboard/<server>/messages).
  2. In the Welcome messages section, turn on the switch at the top right.
  3. Under Channel, pick the text channel where the greeting should appear. You can't save without a channel.
  4. Adjust the Title and Description. The Preview on the right shows you right away how the message will look in Discord.
  5. Click Save. Only then is the switch applied as well.
  6. Repeat this in the Leave messages section if you want.

Note

Flipping the switch on its own doesn't change anything. yurna only sends the message once you click Save after turning it on.

Settings#

  • Channel – a text channel yurna is allowed to post in (required).
  • Title – up to 250 characters.
  • Description – up to 2040 characters. Discord markdown such as bold, italics or quotes with > works.
  • Image – the card below the message is designed in the card designer. The Design card button takes you straight there.

If you leave the title or description empty, yurna uses a default text.

Placeholders#

PlaceholderReplaced with
{user}the member's display name
{mention}a mention of the member
{username}the member's username
{guild}your server's name
{count}the current member count

Tip

{user} inserts the name as plain text, so the member won't get pinged.

By command#

You can also control welcome and leave messages right from Discord. Both commands are part of /join. You need "Manage Server".

CommandWhat it doesKey options
/join welcome enableTurns welcome messages onchannel (required): channel · title: title · description: text – both with {user} and {guild}
/join welcome disableTurns welcome messages off–
/join welcome checkShows whether they're on, in which channel and with which text–
/join leave enableTurns leave messages onchannel (required) · title · description
/join leave disableTurns leave messages off–
/join leave checkShows the current state of leave messages–

If you leave out the title or description with enable, yurna uses the default text – any text you saved in the dashboard before is replaced. Rules, autorole and sticky roles live in /join too, see Join & rules.

Common questions#

Why doesn't a message show up?#

yurna needs the View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links and Attach Files permissions in the chosen channel. If any of them is missing, the message is silently skipped. Also check that you saved after turning it on.

/join welcome says the bot is missing permissions – what now?#

For /join welcome and /join leave, yurna itself needs the "Manage Server" permission. The dashboard doesn't require this.

Why did the message turn itself off?#

If the channel was deleted or yurna can no longer see it, /join welcome check or /join leave check switches the message off automatically. Pick a new channel and turn it back on.

How do I change the image below the message?#

You change the card's colours, texts and background in the card designer, not here.
