Join-to-Create voice channels

Members join a trigger channel and instantly get their own voice channel, which cleans itself up afterwards.

Quick look

This is how it looks in Discord – with sample data.

Your own voice channels with a control panel.

Join the hangout and you get your own voice channel – controlled with buttons: name, limit, lock and more.

Join the hangout. Step 1 of 3

With Join-to-Create you no longer need dozens of empty voice channels. Members join a trigger channel, yurna immediately creates a voice channel just for them and moves them into it. As soon as everyone has left, yurna deletes the channel again.

In the dashboard#

  1. In Discord, create a voice channel to act as the trigger, e.g. "Create your own channel".
  2. In the dashboard sidebar, open Community & events → Join-to-Create (/dashboard/<server>/join-to-create) and click New profile.
  3. Choose the Trigger voice channel – that's your trigger channel.
  4. Optional: choose a Category for the new channels. If you leave it empty, they're created in the same category as the trigger channel.
  5. Set the Name template (up to 100 characters).
  6. Optional: turn on Limit users and enter a number between 1 and 99 under User limit.
  7. Set up the Control panel in the channel chat (see below).
  8. Make sure Profile active is on, then click Save.

With several profiles you can separate member, staff or tech channels, for example.

Settings#

  • Name template – placeholders: {user} for the username, {guild} for the server name. Example: {user}'s channel.
  • User limit – the maximum number of people allowed in the new channel (1 to 99). Without a limit, the channel is open.
  • Profile active – yurna only uses active profiles. Paused profiles stay saved.
  • Create trigger channel automatically – this setting is currently only stored and doesn't do anything yet, so create the trigger channel yourself.

Control panel in the channel chat#

yurna posts a control panel in the text chat of every new channel, with buttons to rename, set the limit, lock, hide, allow, block, kick, transfer and more – only for the owner and your mod team.

  • Control panel – Send, Send + pin or Off. To pin, yurna needs "Manage Messages" in the category.
  • Mention the owner – the owner gets a ping and finds the control panel right away.
  • Bitrate, region and knocking – extra buttons for audio quality, voice region and "Knock" for locked channels.
  • Allow "My defaults" – members save name, limit and lock; their next own channel then starts that way automatically.

How the channel behaves#

  • Whoever creates the channel can manage it (rename it, change the limit).
  • If the creator leaves while others are still inside, a random remaining member takes over. The channel is then renamed after that person.
  • Once nobody is left, the channel is deleted.

Required permissions#

yurna needs Manage Channels and Move Members to create and delete channels and move members into them. yurna must be allowed to create channels in the target category.

Premium#

How many profiles you can create depends on your plan: New Moon 3, Half Moon 10, Full Moon 25.

By command#

You manage profiles with /jtc (needs "Manage Server"). Options you leave out stay unchanged. Members control their own channel with /channel-control.

For the user limit via /channel-control you can enter 0 to 99; 0 removes the limit. New channel names can be up to 100 characters long.

Common questions#

Why does nothing happen when joining?#

Check that the profile is active and the right trigger channel is selected.

/channel-control says "You need to be in a voice channel" – why?#

The command only works while you're in a voice channel.

Why does it say "You're missing the Manage Channels permission"?#

You didn't create this channel and don't have management rights there.

An empty channel stays behind – what now?#

If yurna restarted while the channel was open, it may no longer be deleted automatically. Just delete it by hand.
