Verification
New members confirm themselves with a button, captcha, maths task or questions – and get a role for it.
Quick look
This is how it looks in Discord – with sample data.
Give new members a warm welcome.
A welcome banner with their name plus a verification button – yurna assigns the role as soon as someone confirms.
Mira joined the server.
yurna notices the join right away.
Interactive demo with sample data. Nothing is changed on a real server.
A new member joins. Step 1 of 3
With verification, yurna posts a message with a button in a channel of your choice. Anyone who confirms receives the verified role. This lets you unlock the rest of your server only after a quick check and slows down automated accounts.
In the dashboard#
- In Discord, create a role that members should receive after confirming (e.g. "Verified"). Give this role access to your regular channels.
- In the dashboard sidebar, open Welcome & members → Verification (
/dashboard/<server>/verify). - Turn on Module active at the top right.
- Under Channel & roles, choose the Notification channel – that's where the verify message appears – and the Verified role.
- Under Method, choose how members confirm themselves. On the right you see live what happens in Discord.
- Under Verify message, design the title, text, button and colour. The Embed preview shows you the result.
- Click Save in the bar at the bottom.
After saving, yurna posts the verify message in the chosen channel within about a minute. If you change something later, the same message is updated. If you turn the module off, yurna removes the message again. At the top of the page, Statistics shows how many members verified, how many attempts failed and who is still pending.
Channel & roles#
- Notification channel – the text channel for the verify message (required).
- Verified role – yurna gives this role after confirmation (required).
- Unverified role – optional. If the member has this role, yurna removes it on verification. yurna does not hand it out on join, though – use autorole under Join & rules for that.
- Also give and Also remove – up to 10 more roles that yurna gives or takes away after verification.
The dashboard rejects roles with admin permissions (e.g. Administrator) and roles managed by an integration when you save.
Method#
| Method | How the member confirms |
|---|---|
| Button | One click is enough. |
| Text captcha | Type the code from the form title (4 to 8 characters, set under Characters in the code). |
| Image captcha | Type the characters from a night-sky image. |
| Math task | Solve a small sum in your head. |
| Emoji puzzle | Click the right emoji. |
| Rule question | Answer a question about your rules. You set the question and up to 10 correct answers. |
| Custom questions | Up to 5 questions (up to 45 characters each). Answers go to the log channel. With Team approves, your team decides who gets in. |
Verify message#
- Embed title – up to 250 characters.
- Embed description – up to 2048 characters, Discord markdown supported.
- Button label – 1 to 80 characters.
- Embed color – via the colour picker or as a HEX value (e.g.
#5865F2).
Note
The verify message is the same for everyone, so yurna only replaces {guild} with the server name. {user} stays as plain text – it's best to remove it from the title if your template still contains it.
Security#
0 always means "off".
- Minimum account age in days – younger Discord accounts are not verified directly. Under If the account is too young you choose Notice (politely turn away) or Team approval (request in the log channel).
- Attempts and Cooldown in minutes – after this many failed attempts a cooldown follows.
- Time limit in hours – anyone still not verified after this is kicked from the server. This only applies to members who join after you save.
Log & team#
- Log channel – approval requests and answers to custom questions go here. Needed for team approval and custom questions.
- Team role – members with this role may approve or reject requests.
- Record in the server log – also writes verifications to the dashboard's server log.
Options#
- Force channel leave – after verification, yurna hides the verify channel for that member, which keeps the channel tidy. On by default.
- Welcome DM – after verification, yurna sends a direct message with your DM text (up to 1800 characters).
Required permissions#
- View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links in the notification channel – otherwise yurna can't post the message.
- Manage Roles, and yurna's role must be above every role it gives or removes in the role list.
- For Force channel leave, yurna must be allowed to edit the verify channel's permissions. For the Time limit, yurna needs Kick Members.
Tip
Deny @everyone access to every channel except the verify channel and unlock channels through the verified role. That way, new members only see the verify message at first.
By command#
With /verify you can set up everything in Discord too. You need "Manage Server". Options you leave out stay unchanged; - clears a text field.
| Command | What it does | Key options |
|---|---|---|
/verify setup | Set channel, roles and message; turns verification on | channel · role (verified) · unverified-role · no-unverified-role · button · title · description · color · leave-channel · enabled |

/verify questions add <question> | Add a custom question (up to 45 characters) | hint: hint in the field · long: multi-line answer |
/verify questions remove <number> | Remove a question | number: number from the list |

/verify dm | Welcome DM after verifying | enabled · text (- = default) |
/verify disable | Turns verification off | – |

After /verify setup, yurna posts the verify message just like saving in the dashboard does.
Common questions#
Why doesn't the verify message appear?#
Check the channel permissions and make sure both the channel and the verified role are set. Without both, yurna posts nothing.
What does "I couldn't give you the verification role" mean?#
Usually yurna is missing Manage Roles or its role sits too low. Drag it above the verified role in your server settings.
My captcha expired – what now?#
Just click the button again to get a new code.
Should I use verification and rule acceptance together?#
Ideally use only one, or give out different roles with each. Also don't hand out the verified role via autorole, or verification is bypassed.
