Prefix commands and command rules
Run commands by message, like y!ban, and decide who may use which commands where – for all commands or per command.
Under Modules & commands → Commands (/dashboard/<server>/modules?reiter=befehle) you set up two things that apply to every command: prefix commands (commands by message, e.g. y!ban @user Spam) and command rules (who may use which commands where). Changes collect in the save bar at the bottom and take effect right after Save.
Prefix commands#
Prefix commands are off by default. To turn them on:
- Open Modules & commands → Commands and switch to Prefix commands at the top.
- Turn on the switch Turn on prefix commands and choose a prefix, e.g.
y!(suggestion). 1 to 5 characters are allowed, no spaces, not/and no mention. - Save. You can do the same under Settings → Prefix commands.
From then on every slash command also works by message – with the same permissions, rules and plan limits:
| Message | same as |
|---|---|
y!ping | /yurna ping |
y!timeout @user 10 Spam in the channel | /timeout user:@user minutes:10 reason:Spam in the channel |
y!8ball Will it work? | /fun 8ball – parts of a bundle also work under their old name |
y!warn @user points:2 Spam | single values also work as name:value, anywhere |
- Values follow the order of the slash command. The last text option takes the rest of the message, for example the reason for
timeout; words in "quotes" stay together. y!helpshows the short help,y!help banthe help for one command.- Replies that only you would see with the slash command appear in the channel and disappear after 20 seconds.
- Commands with a form (pop-up) only work as slash commands – yurna tells you so.
- yurna silently ignores unknown commands so other bots with the same prefix aren't drowned out.
Under Prefix per command you turn single commands off for the prefix, e.g. ban if banning should only work via slash. Anyone using it with the prefix then gets the hint "This command is only available as a slash command here". If a command is off under slash commands, it doesn't work with the prefix either.
Command rules#
Rule for all commands#
At the top of the Commands tab you find the rule for all commands. It applies to every slash and prefix command on this server:
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Allowed roles | Empty = everyone. Otherwise only members with one of these roles may use commands. |
| Ignored roles | Members with these roles can't use commands. |
| Ignored channels | yurna doesn't respond to commands in these channels. |
Rules per command#
Under Slash commands you open Rules on any command:
- Only for roles: empty = everyone may use the command. Otherwise only members with one of these roles.
- Only in channels: empty = in all channels. A category applies to all channels in it, threads count as their channel.
The rules apply to slash and prefix use alike. For bundles like /fun you set each part under its old name, e.g. "8ball".
Note
Administrators are exempt from all rules. Anyone who is turned away gets a short message only they can see – for example "Commands are turned off in this channel".
Tip
yurna's command rules add to Discord's command permissions (Server settings → Integrations → yurna). Discord hides commands there for roles and channels; yurna's rules also cover prefix commands.
FAQ#
yurna doesn't react to y!ping. Check that prefix commands are turned on and saved and that you're using the right prefix. If the channel is under Ignored channels or you have an ignored role, yurna doesn't respond or replies with a hint.
Can I use several prefixes? No, there is one prefix per server. Slash commands always work as well.
Does "Only in channels" apply to threads? Yes – a thread counts as its channel, a channel as its category.
